The Parable of the Fox and the Hedgehog
This morning we were summed to watch a videotaped speaking engagement by Jim Collins, who is somewhat of a motivational speaker for the corporate world. I was pretty skeptical going into it, but he was a good speaker, and a lot of what he said has personal relevance. One of his main points was related to the parable of the fox and the hedgehog. The fox is crafty and does a lot of things well, but he's no match against a hedgehog, who excells at one simple thing: rolling up into a ball and defending himself. He went on to explain the hedgehog principal as the union set of three things: Doing something you have a genuine passion for, doing something that you have a genetic predisposition to be the best at, and having the right economic denominator--a simplified plan for turning that something into money. He said that by keeping those three things in line and pushing at the "flywheel" of this principal, you'll eventually gain a lot of momentum and growth in your field.
It was clear to me that Wendy is on the right path. She's passionate about animation, she's naturally a great teacher, and all the different things she does--from teaching workshops to freelance writing to consulting--is geared around her teaching animation to different audiences. But I still don't really know where my passion lies.
