Three Strangers Observed
I just stopped for gas next to a woman trying to fill up two new-looking Jaguars. When pulled up, she looked up at me and smiled in a friendly way quite unlike a natural Jaguar owner. She was dressed kind of gaudy--like a 50-year-old coffee shop waitrees who won the lottery. I later saw that she was with a good looking younger man, and I wondered if she somehow did win a huge sum of money and decided to become someone's sugar mama.
Later, I saw another woman, much older, who was leaning against a chain link fence looking out at the bay. She was at the corner of the fence and beside her was a walker. She was holding the fence with one hand and shielding her eyes with the other, as if she was trying to spot something.
After that, I saw a young couple in a Subaru beater. He got out to lift the hood and add brake fluid while she leaned over to look in the mirror and pick food from her teeth.
