Fake Disgusting Art
Reuters reported today that a Chinese performance artist has made a video of himself eating a stillborn baby. This is too horrible for me to comprehend, but as a society, our comprehension for horror seems very agile. 20 years ago Divine eating dog poo in a John Waters' film was enough to get people upset. This trajectory places us, by the year 2020, where performance artists eat parts of their own bodies.
This is what makes people old, you know? That's why were so liberal in our youth and conservative in our old age. People have to keep trying to change the order of things, and they can only change so much before we can no longer comfortably abide the change. So, then we try to resist it. To me, this is false art. Art is creation at it's most basic form, and next to that beautiful. While the artist no doubt creates a sense of disgust in me, there is nothing about his art that can be credibly described as beautiful.
