Reseda and Nordhoff
I am conflicted between whimsy and dread. I came out to L.A. for a few days before the E3 convention so I could spend some time with family and friends, but also so I could haunt my past like a ghost.
One reason why I left L.A. was that there is no physical history to the landscape here. They've covered everything in concrete (even the river!), and they re-arrange all of the buildings like legos to suit a short-sighted need.
I'm not so much dismayed by how much has changed, but by what has changed. I had planned to go into Common Grounds, a coffee house near the university, but it's now a diving store. Up the street is a huge new Starbucks--it's an easy assumption that one change led to the other. The University is also greatly changed, but it was always in flux while I was there. I just drove alongside the western campus, but I saw at least five new buildings there.
