Signifying Monkey

I'm sitting on the ferry, crossing the sound during a dark, beautiful sunset. A family next to me has a young boy who is rambunctuous. He looks out the window and annonces that he wants to "hop in the water." He says this again so loud, and the water is so dark and unfriendly that I think he is trying to annoy--or threaten--his parents. "I want to go in the water!" he screams, standing on the bench. His father, angry now, calls him: "Jonah! Come here!"

I almost laughed out loud.
