Only Life is Holy
Last night, when I was in the garage, I had what felt like a spiritual awakening. I thought that the only thing I know for sure in this world is that life is holy and, thus, anything that makes death is bad; anything that glorifies death is bad; anything that lives on death is bad.
There were some other parts to it that I wasn't able to really articulate--kind of a Walt Whitman, life-is-beauty kind of thing.
So what does this mean for me? Should I become a pro-life activist? Honestly, I don't know yet. I've always considered myself a pro-choice kind of guy, but I feel like my perspective shifted a little bit. Maybe I'm just becoming a humanist.
There are a lot of "issues" that this awakening may impact, but what does it mean to my life? First, maximize the living part of your life: sex, conversation, walking, contemplating, etc. Then minimize the non-living parts of my life: work. Also, keep a check on distractions: TV, negative thoughts, etc.
[3/27] See, this is what I'm talking about. This teenager was prepared to blow himself up with the hope of taking out a couple of Israeli soldiers and the promise of virgins in Heaven. Now, I know there are complex political theory about suicide attacks, but come on! A 16-year-old tricked into blowing himself up for The Cause? What the fuck are people thinking? It's a good thing they stopped him...a good thing for him! Supposing there's a God, and he's the God of Islam, I think it's a huge presumption that there's a post-life reward for such action. Talk about a fucking longshot! That's odds on top of odds on top of odds. "Take everything you have, everything you've ever had, every memory, every sensation, every thought, even the one thing we're sure that God gave you--your Life--and blow it to smitherines. Really. God wants you to, and will reward you aplenty. Trust us." It's just like Patton said, "No one ever won a war by dying for their country. Wars are won by making the other poor son-of-a-bitch die for his country."
