A friend of mine from college, Steve, once posed a future to me that he described as so encroached by technology and artificial materials that natural objects like stone and wood would become akin to ritual items.
And then, a month or so ago, Wendy did a workshop with kids who were doing films about the environment. One of the films taught both Wendy and I that it's wrong to buy teak wood since it's farmed from the Amazon rainforest. The end of the film just says, "DON'T BUY TEAK" and each letter was a different color. How can you not be swayed by that?
And then, we were at her parents' house last week, and they have teak.

Teak is nice. Teak is really, really nice.
Our planet is so doomed.
