The Odor of Processed Asparagus

Makes your pee smell

We're in Massachusetts right now and asparagus is in season. Wendy's family really likes it, so I've eaten it about three or four times in the last week. You may or may not know this, but eating it makes your pee smell funny.

I thought this happened to everyone, but according to WebMD, this isn't necessarily so. They quote a study that found only the smell, which is caused by a sulfur compound called Mercaptan that's broken down by digestion, was only present in half of one population studied. Also, a different study found that 10 percent of another population could not detect the odor.
