"Like Eating Pictures of Food"

I was reading this website, where the writer explains in terms of computers and operating systems. It gets pretty technical, but I was understanding enough to follow it when I came to this sentence: sense of it.

This is like trying to eat pictures of food: it might fill you up, but it's ultimately unsatisfying.

I kind of thought that was a startling similie.
