You Will Know Fall By Its Spiders

Suspended Bubbles 2
Dew Suspended in a Web
Living here in the PNW for five years, I'm able to notice the first signs of a seasonal change. For example, you know it's the start of spring when you can actually smell things--the water, the trees. I know that fall is around the corner when I start seeing--or worse, not seeing and running into--spider webs outside.

Growing up, spider webs were a big part of Halloween decorations. I thought it was just because spiders are creepy. It's also that they're a big part of autumn. A bumper crop of insects are hitting their expiration dates at the end of summer. They are to spiders what salmon are to bears.

It makes me sad to think of the fall coming. I hate to see the warm weather go.
